Donations were recorded as medicine names, with grams representing the amount, cleverly deceiving the Spaniards while establishing a functioning government.

SITE TOUR DESTINATIONS:

  • The Ruins
    • This ancestral mansion of sugar baron Don Mariano Ledesma Lacson was built in Talisay City in the early 1900s in memory of his late wife, Maria Braga Lacson. During WWII, Filipino guerillas burned it down to prevent its use by Japanese forces as a military office.
  • Balay Negrense
    • The Victor Fernandez Gaston Ancestral House, also known as Balay Negrense, is the first museum in Negros Occidental, offering a glimpse into the life of a late 19th-century Negrense sugar baron. Note: Currently under renovation, but exterior photos are allowed. We will substitute it with the Hofilena Ancestral House or the Negros Museum.
  • Balay ni Tana Dicang
  • San Diego Pro Cathedral
    • San Diego Pro Cathedral, an early 20th-century church in Silay City, Negros Occidental, became a pro-cathedral in 1994 and is the only one outside Manila. It is unique in the province for its cupola, with the ruins of the older 1841 church located at the back.
  • Negros Museum
    • This museum is unique because it does not contain valuable archaeological artifacts; instead, it highlights the Negrense lifestyle and society through old furnishings and items borrowed from ancestral houses.
  • Bacolod City New Government Center
    • Built in 2006 and completed on August 8, 2008, this 3-story building sits on a 5-hectare lot along Bacolod’s circumferential road. Originally called the “New Government Center” (NGC), it is now referred to as the “Bacolod City Government Center” (BCGC) under the new administration.
  • Pope John Paul II Tower
    • The Pope John Paul II Tower, dedicated to the late pope’s visit to Bacolod on February 20, 1981, serves as a pilgrimage center reflecting his life and advocacies. From the 7th floor, visitors can see the Islands of Iloilo and Guimaras, along with views of the windmills and a stunning sunset.
  • Bacolod Plaza
    • The Bacolod plaza is the center of the annual MassKara Festival, held every fourth Sunday of October. It serves as the final destination for the festival’s street dancing competition, the event’s main highlight.
  • San Sebastian Cathedral
    • San Sebastian Cathedral, also called Bacolod Cathedral, is the most renowned religious and historical landmark in Bacolod. It is the second oldest church in Negros Occidental.
  • Negros Occidental Provincial Capitol Lagoon
    • Capitol Lagoon, a provincial park in Bacolod City, features sculptures of a woman and man with water buffaloes at both ends of the lagoon. These sculptures were created by Italian sculptor Francesco Riccardo Monti, with contributions from Guillermo Tolentino.
  • Merzci & Bongbong’s (Pasalubong Shopping)
